final reflection

Final Refection:

I am most proud of my slab project, specifically my set of mugs. The reason why am most proud of these mugs is because I enjoyed making them, I learned from making them, and I also got to give them to my family for the holidays. I struggled a little bit with the clay drying and me still working so I had to try and reattach and re wet some of the handles a few times so that they wouldn't crack. I am also proud of this project because I had fun creating the colors and the little sculptures in the bottom. I enjoyed using tape to make clean line between the two glazes. Something I struggled/ I would go back and re think with this project is the glaze colors. On the one in the far right corner I thought the top was going to be more purple/lavender and the one on the far right I though the bottom was going to be more green. However, I am still really happy with the colors and how they turned out.

Being in ceramics class has changed how I think about ceramics and art in general alot because it takes alot of skill to make many forms. I also never knew how much teqnique there is and knowledge behind working with clay. Some examples are wedging, wetting the table, slab, coil and more. Taking this class has also made me wonder how mugs and plates at places like Target are made because if they were made by hand, you would think, they would all be a little different. Thinking about this makes me appreciate hand made things because you know someone worked hard to make this form, that with ceramics, can be useful in everyday life!

Some ways that this class could be better is maybe have one project where there are no requirements ( however, I dont really know if that is allowed with school and grading). Or, I did also like the project were we onley got a certain amount of clay an had to make something. Maybe there could be even less clay or another requirement that could be challenging. Overall, I really liked the class and I am glad that I got to make things that I can use at home!
