Organ and tissue donation

ride the wave.

9 x 12

water color, colored pencil, pen, pencil

The main idea that guided my art work is I wanted to come up with a good phrase that worked with both the topic as well as it was not just any phrase, I wanted it to mean somthing to me. I chose the phrase that I did because I love to surf and one of my surfing friends wrote the phrase "have fun riding the wave of life" in a birthday card to me. This is what prompted the phrase for this artwork. I also thought that it would be fun to paint the ocean with water colors.

this artwork was made by using a pencil to sketch out the wave out line. Then I sketched out the surfer as well as the surf board. After this I used blue water colors to make the wave. I made sure to use different shades of blue to show more texture and dimension in the water. I also thought that water color would show more dimension in the water/wave. next I used colored pencil for the surfer and the board. then I used yellow orange and white colored pencil for the sun. After this I used a light wash of blue water color for the sky just to make it so that the sky was not plain white. after this I used black pen to write the words that are written at the top next to the sun and on the side of the wave in the middle-left of the painting.

The process that I took from the beginning to the end of this artwork is when I first started drawing the surfer I didn't like how it looked so I started over and then I liked it more. At first I was going to do a whale and the phase was going to be "organ and tissue donation can make a BIG difference." or I was going to do a frog and say " take the leap, consider organ and tissue donation." the thing that changed my mind from this is I came up with this third surfing idea and I asked my family witch was better and they all told me to do the surfing one so I did.
