Turtles
84 colors of acrylic paint
The main idea that guided my artwork is I like the ocean and the color blue a lot. I also was trying to think of something that I could use many colors but still make it look good I remembered a trip that my family and I took and there was a turtle in the ocean when we went out to swim around with fish and dolphins. This idea was the one that I stuck with because I knew that the turtles could use the greens, the ocean could use the blues and dark purples and the sky could use warm colors because I could make the sun rising in the morning ( or setting in the night).
the materials that I used were acrylic paint mainly. I also used painting trays to mix all the colors in. I also used 3 paint brushes. One was thick and looked like a square. I found this one helpful for the ocean because it could blend the colors really nice and it would also spread the paint well so that I didn't have to keep on getting more paint. I used another one that was thick but did not have a square shape. I liked this one for the turtle shells and the sky because it could get a good amount of paint and it was pretty easy to control so that I could get the colors where I thought they should go. I also used a really small brush that was really helpful for the sunset when I wanted to make little streaks of color. This brush was also helpful for the small turtle because its shells are smaller so it was easier to put the paints in the shells pieces. I also used pencil at the very begging to sketch out the picture.
My process for making this painting is I first sketched the drawing out with pencil and then I used the chart of the 84 colors to start mixing. I started with the ocean/ blue shades because it was big and easy to start with as a base layer. then I moved onto the turtles with the green shades. Lastley, I did the sky with the warm colors and the purples. This idea came to me pretty quickly so I didn't really go back and change much. The one thing that I did change was I was going to make to sky blue and have it be daytime but then I realized that I wouldn't have many places to put warm color so I decided to put them in the sky.
