watercolor, watercolor pencils
The main idea that guided this artwork is I had a hard time deciding what I wanted my sustained investigation to be. I was debating showing dementia and how it affects people and drawing the ocean. I decided to combine them both and so for this art piece I decided to make my grandmother and I sitting on the beach together. My grandmother has dementia and it is her birthday soon. It is sometimes hard to give her gifts without her getting confused. As I was making this painting I decided to give this to her for her birthday, so I wanted to make it something that she would like.
The materials that I used for this artwork is watercolor and water color pencils. I like the way that water colors look on paper and how you can layer them a bunch of times to create something more detailed.
The process that I did was, first I started out using this gatorboard type of thing. It absorbed the watercolor so quickly, I couldn't move the paint around like I wanted to do. I threw this draft away and started on an 11x 16 piece of watercolor paper. I liked this way so much better because I was able to move around and absorb the water color if I needed to. Then, after this I started to paint more details like the seaweed, rocks and the whale. I did this because I knew that I wanted the painting to be super simple but still have detail. The final artwork is something that I am really happy with and I am SO exited to give it to my grandma.
