Artist statement
The main idea that guided my artwork was the idea of the stars and stripes. I thought about what comes to mind when I thought of the monumental moments in US history. One of the first ideas that came to my mind was NASA and when the united states went to the moon. My other idea was the Olympics, because it is where all people go and support their country. I decided to go with a rocket ship because I saw a opportunity to utilize different materials, colors and postive and negative space.
The materials that I used was paper, scissors, a hole punch, a black pen, glue and a white pen. I cut out the paper shapes with scissors and then glues then down. Then I used a hole punch to cut of stars so that they could be uniform. Then after all of the pieces were glued down, I used a black pen to write USA on the rocket. Lastly I switched to the white pen to draw stars in the sky.
The process that I went though was, first I thought about how I could utilize stars and stripes and the different materials that I could use. I then made the cut outs and stared to piece the cutouts on the paper. This helped create texture and it helped me use negative space.
