leading lines

Artist Statement:

This project was leading lines and for this project I used a film camera to take photos around school, then looked at the negatives followed by making a contact strip, test trips and finally developing the photos that I liked the best, had the best light and chance of succeeding and also that met the assignment criteria.

When taking these photos I tried to keep the assignment details in mind while also taking pictures of unique and interesting photos. Looking back, I wish I had kept in mind how different lighting would affect the photos. This is how I ended up with the photo on the left. I orignally took this photo because I was wearing mich match socks and I thought it would look cool and simple, but then, looking at my negitives, they were all really light and I knew the wouldnt develop. Because of this I choose one that would develop better and had less obvious leading lines. However, the one on the right I thought had a good range of lights to darks and also shows leading lines in the cement.

My favorite part about the photo on the left is my socks. The reason why is because I feel it capture a childish feeling and it contrasts to light and dark on the film while maintaining the pattern and keeping everything else pretty simple. My favorite part about the second photo is how the leading lines are not straight and it feels like they are leading the viewer through the feet of a crowd.
