The Flower Pot
colored pencil, black pen
8 1/2 x 11
The ideas that are visually evident in my work is the idea of an abstract mailbox and flower pot. The story of this is I drew a blind contour drawing of my hand first, next I drew a skeleton and lastly I drew a face. I drew all of these on top of one another to make multiple lines and shapes. This project relates to my life because an abstract version of my hand is incorporated in to this drawing. This drawing also relates to my life because I have grown up around flowers because one of my moms jobs is a florist and so I have always had big pots of colorful flowers in my house.
The materials that I used to make this drawing is, I used a black pen and colorful colored pencils. I used a black pen instead of a pencil for the blind contour drawing so that I wouldn't be able to erase any of the marks that I had made while drawing. I used many different colored pencils because I wanted the drawing to be full of color. I especially wanted the flower pot to have lots of different colors incorporated in a small space.
The process that I used to create my work of art is I did I blind contour drawing of three objects on the same piece of paper to create many shapes and lines. The three objects that I drew were my hand, a face, and a skeleton. All of these drawings of corse turned out to be abstract. Next, I looked to see if what I drew could resemble anything and become an abstract drawing of a whole new object. I did this by turning the paper around and looking from new angles. I found the mailbox and the flower pot. After I found this, I went in with colored pencils and drew in new colors and shapes. My project defiantly evolved, because after I finished doing the blind contour drawings of the three objects it looked like a bunch of lines and I didn't see any thing that it could turn into. As I turned the paper around and looked from new angles I saw the flower pot witch became the inspiration of the drawing. My next steps could be going in and adding more detail to the top half of the drawing witch is the sky. I could also add more texture to the mailbox and the flower pot.
