Sgraffito clay

The main idea that gudided my artwork is that I wanted to do somthing a little abstract but not to much. I then went off of what I knew. I had just learned to draw a shark so I thought it might be cool to do that on sgraffito. I thought that a shark might be a good sgraffito project idea because I could choose to do it really realistically or I could do it abstarctly and kind of comic-ish witch is what I choose to do with this project.

the materials that I used for this artwork is a piece of clay and small tools with little balls on the end to scratch away at the clay. All of the tools had different sizes witch helped with what I was using to scratch away at. For the small fish and gills of the shark I used the tool with the smallest ball on the end. For the body of the shark and the waves I used the tool with the biggest ball on the end.

The process that I went through between my idea and my finished product is I first decided that I was going to make a shark. At first I was going to try and make it realistic but then it just turned out more abstract and comic like so I decided to continue with that idea. As I was making this art work I had to figure out the different tools and witch one I wanted to use depending on what part of the art piece I was working on.
