Dolphin

the main idea that guided my artwork is a memory of a family vacation that we took to key west Florida when I was younger. We were kayaking on the ocean and we saw a whole pod of dolphins right next to our kayaks and we watched them swim around and under our kayaks. there was one small baby dolphin and it came right up to our kayaks and looked right up at us through the water. My love of dolphins started before this but this experience definitely made my love and appreciation for dolphins grow so much. this is why I choose to make a dolphin for this project.

this artwork was made by first I used newspaper and blue painters tape to make the structure that I was going to add on the magazine shreds and the tin cans. The blue tape was used to hold all of the newspaper together but also to make the armature somewhat smooth so that I could put the magazine shreds and tine cans on a smooth surface and not balled up newspaper which has a bumpy surface that is hard to tape glue things onto it and make it stick.

the process of making this artwork is first I did an idea generation where I came up with three ideas and thought about the size, the materials that I would use as well as the idea behind it. then after doing this, I choose the idea that I wanted to do for this project, a dolphin, and then I made a sketch of it on a big piece of paper which made it so that I knew what size it would be. I also annotated this sketch with my ideas that I was thinking I was going to do for this project. After this, I started to make my armature out of newspaper and painters tape. During this step, I used my sketch as a reference for when I was building my armature. My last step was to add the magazine shreds and tin cans to the armature to add color and texture. then I took a little black bead and put it on each side of the dolphins head to make a little eye.
