Pinch pots

artist statement:

For making my two pots I started by sketching my idea and thinking about it in my head. I knew that I wanted it to look simple and look more like a cereal bowl, rather than a small pot. I started by forming a half sphere and then hollowing it out with my hands to shape it how I wanted and make the form. Then I added small legs on one of them by attaching little short cylinders to the bottom. I made the lids by taking a piece of clay and then using a curved plate to make them have a slight curve to them. I was going to add a little handle on top of the lid, but then I switched it to a ball because I thought it looked better. Throughout the process of building the form I was thinking about what colors I was going to use for the glaze because I knew I wanted it to have a few colors in it to contrast the simple form.

I made certain artistic descions like taking the handle off and I also added a lip under the lid to keep it from falling off. I did this because it would benefit the form of it with would later enhance to look of it artistically with the colorful blue and green glaze I put ontop of it.

I think that I was pretty successful in this project. My favorite part is probably the colors I choose because blue and green are some of my favorite colors and I liked being able to put them both on this pot and have them work well together. One thing that I struggled with was the entail making the form of the pot. I struggled because the clay was so soft that it was hard to make it stay still, witch made it harder to nail down the form I wanted for my pot. However, overall I am happy with these pots!
