The assignment of this project was to create a single form using the coil technique. The subject of this work was I was going to make it for my grandmother who has a tree that is just outside of her apartment, that she mentions everytime we go over. She talks about the birds and the little red berries so I thought I would make a little jar for her to put her pens in it because she always is looking for pens. I made this by using the coil and carve technique witch I carved out a little tree, wrapping around the jar, I also carve little birds and glazed it with 4 different kinds of glazes.
The specific elements that I used was little mental carving tools, glazes, and paintbrushes to put the glaze on it. My project evolived because I started with just a small idea of carving a tree but didnt have a specifc idea so it kind of just evolved as I did it. One thing that I didnt plan on doing was adding so many of the little birds but once I did a few I decided to keep adding more and more.
The meaning behind my artwork is that I knew I wanted to give something to my grandmother because she has a hard time remebering some things but she always talks about the tree outside her house and how the birds and chipmuncks come and eat the little red berrys. I am proudenst of the little birds because they make the pot not be so onesided and helps it have more dimesion. I am happy with my overall desgin because I liked how all of the pieces came together. I struggled most with the glaze because ideally the tree branch's would be thinner but I started using a bigger paint brush witch made them a little thicker. I overcame this because then I used a small brush for the berrys witch worked well.
This slide of the portfolio does not have a final image because I thought I had one in my phone but then I gave it to my grandma and then relized that I never had the photo and I feel bad asking for it back.
