DAY 24
**If you're requesting access to a lab document the night before it's due, and you had about a WEEK to do the assignment, it's probably too late. Work on assignments early - waiting until the last minute makes life tough.
Also, please don't email me with urgent questions. Use the Remind App.
Finally, for school assignments, you'll need to login with your LAUSD login and password**
#Goals: SWBAT...
1. Sketch P-t and V-t graphs which match given characteristics.
WARM-UP:
1. Draw a p-t graph showing zero velocity for 5 seconds, then a constant velocity of 1m/s for 5s
2. Draw a v-t graph showing zero velocity for 5 seconds, then a constant velocity of 1m/s for 5s
CLASSWORK
1. #024A: Words Into Action
We're going to play a game (sounds fun, right? Well, it's a physics game, sooo...)
Practice turning a written description into movement.
Your job, copy the scenario number (example: 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, etc), then sketch the graph and describe (write) the settings required to solve each scenario.
Example: For 1-2, I'd draw the graph, and write the following settings: xi = 0m vi = -1m/s
Complete World 1: 1-14, World 2: 1-7, World 3: 2, 4, 6, 8, 11
Learning at Home (HW)
1. If necessary, complete your solutions for Worlds 1-3
2. 024B: You need to memorize the 4 UAM (Uniform Accelerated Motion) equations shown in this video. Quiz yourself, and try to memorize them.
Answer the EdPuzzle questions (LINK) and take notes. If you need an example of notes, here's one (LINK)
2. Determine if solutions to acceleration problems are correct or incorrect
#Goals: SWBAT...
1. Describe the relationship between weight and mass
2. Solve basic (one-dimension) force problems
3. Solve Free-Fall and Projectile Motion problems
Warm-Up (5min)
Copy and fill in (or choose) the correct answers for the following:
1. Is weight a force? (Y/N)
2. The equation for force is F=ma, or Force equals mass times acceleration
With that in mind, if your mass is 75kg, what is your weight on Earth?
3. If your mass on Earth is 75kg, what is your mass on the Moon, where the
acceleration from the moon's gravity is only 1/6th (1.62m/s2) of Earth's gravitational
attraction?
4. What is your weight on the moon?
CLASSWORK
1. #024A: Exam #1 Study Guide and Practice Time
Have questions about the problems on the study guide? Need time to work on it?
We have 25 minutes to work on it now.
Lose your Study Guide? Here's a link to the document: LINK
Done? Here's two new practice problems
Directions: Choose the best answer for each of the following questions. You MUST show your work to receive credit. Keep work neat and organized in the space provided.
Billy stands on the Talahatchee Bridge kicking stones into the water below. If Billy kicks a stone with a horizontal velocity of 3.50m/s and it lands in the water a horizontal distance of 5.40m from where Billy is standing, what is the height of the bridge?
-11.7 m
11.7 m
-1.54 m
1.54 m
Use GUESS
A baseball pitcher makes a big mistake and throws the ball straight up. If it reaches a maximum height of 15m, what is the initial velocity of the ball?
4.9 m/s
294 m/s
1.5 m/s
17 m/s
Use GUESS
2. #024B: Ball in a Cup Post Lab
Lab report is due Thursday
Must include Title, Names, Group Member Names, Purpose, Materials, Procedure (you came up with this), Data, Sample Calculations (show how you figured out Δx=vix*Δt), and an Analysis section where you describe any errors (example, your ball landed short of the cup. What could've caused this?).
At Home Learning (HW)
1. Exam #1 Monday. Bring paper, pencil, calculator (no phones allowed, even when you're done. Bring a book)
Lose your Study Guide? Here's a link to the document: LINK
2. #024C: For the exam, you're allowed one 1/2 sheet with equations only. No sample problems, no notes, no definitions. The equation sheet is HW, and an easy 5 points.
3. #025: You homework, due TUESDAY, is to prepare for class by watching ten minutes worth of videos on Free Body Diagrams (there are two videos)
Take Notes: Free Body Diagrams
Watch the video, and answer the EdPuzzle Questions: EDpuzzle
Take Notes: The Reality of our First Free Body Diagram
Watch the video, and answer the EdPuzzle Questions: EDpuzzle
Solutions to Study Guide are below. Message me via the Remind App with any questions
Vix for #1 below should've been 3.50m, not 3.5m, so the answer to #1 below is 11.7m, as we get 3 sig figs.
