Today's video lesson is here: https://youtu.be/_aVQ6Uw1Sr8
GOALS: swbat...
1. define opaque and transparent
2. state why objects appear white, black, bright, dim, etc.
WARM-UP
1. Consider the word, 'void'. What does it mean for a space to be void of matter?
2. A search and rescue worker needs to know the depth of a cave so they can choose the correct length of rope. Which speed should they use to calculate the distance, the speed of Electro-Magnetic waves (aka, speed of light (3x108m/s)) or the speed of sound (343m/s)?
3. If the echo returns to the worker in 1.2 seconds, find the depth of the cave.
CLASSWORK
1. 156A: EM waves & Transparent vs. Opaque - Notes & Practice Questions
Opaque: If an object is opaque, then the vibrations of the electrons in the EM wave are not passed from atom to atom through the bulk of the material. Rather the electrons of atoms on the material's surface vibrate for short periods of time and then re-emit the energy as a reflected light wave. Such frequencies of light are said to be reflected.
Transparent: Transparent materials are materials that allow one or more of the frequencies of visible light to be transmitted through them.
Is water transparent?
Are you sure?
Think about the photo of the ocean linked here (LINK) ...what color is missing?
Assignment is on schoology
2. 156B: Guided Reading: Basic Colors
(assigned on Schoology, to be submitted on Schoology). Reading is here (LINK)

GOALS: SWBAT...
1. determine the charge (+ or -) of two materials after they interact with each other
2. use friction to create a charge imbalance in two objects
WARM-UP
1. Define the following. Look up physics definitions if necessary. Write your definition in your own words
a. affinity
b. electron affinity
CLASSWORK
1. Review Charging by Friction 1-6 LINK
2. complete charging by friction handout 1-12 to show proficiency
3. 156A: friction rod activity
HW:
1. 156B: Complete all the first two skill builder levels here (LINK): Make sure to use your full name, and to take a screen shot of your two trophies when you're done
The third level is extra credit :-)
