DAY 18
#GOALS: IWBAT...
1. Define the components of the acceleration equation
2. Solve an acceleration problem using the GUESS method
WARM-UP:
Review the image of the rock falling from the cliff (LINK)
Is the rock moving at a constant velocity? (Y/N)
How can you tell?
What does the text call this example of falling without resistance?
Copy the Two Rules for Free-Fall:
CLASSWORK
HW Questions?
#018A: Acceleration Notes (10 min)
Read this page on the Acceleration of Gravity (LINK). Answer the following in your notes
#018B: Acceleration Problem Solving Practice
For HW last night, you saw Mr. P solve a problem involving his Prius and acceleration while stopping.
We'll practice a similar problem from CH 3, page 63, Example #2. As we solve it, use GUESS and copy the solution into your notes
Try CH 3 pg 64 #6
Review
Try CH 3 pg 64 7, 8, 10
If time allows, we'll review your lab for tomorrow
Learning at Home (HW)
Read #019A: Lab 2 - Acceleration of a Penny (LINK). You'll be doing this lab Tuesday/Wednesday. Brief 2 question quiz on the lab tomorrow.
#018C: Watch the following video on acceleration problem solving (LINK). Take notes & answer the EdPuzzle questions.
Complete CH 3 pg 64 #6, 7, 8, 10

OLD STUFF BELOW....
#Goals: SWBAT...
1. set up a lab experiment without being given specific instructions. (think on your own, folks)
2. collect vx data
3. determine delta x correctly
4. get the ball bearing in the cup, 1st time
Warm-Up (5min)
What is a "plumb bob"? (look it up if you need to)
In which field of work is a plumb bob used?
do you have anything in your possession that can function as a plumb bob?
***Warm-Up check this Friday - 2 weeks worth of warm-ups (Day 10-19). They should be labeled and organized***
CLASSWORK
1. #018A: Pre-Lab completion
Work in your groups. Each person must write their answers on their own paper, which will be your "ticket" to begin the lab Thursday. If your pre-lab isn't complete and correct, you'll have to finish it instead of working on the lab with your groupmates....
Your pass to get the materials is a completed pre-lab document, and you being able to answer the question, "How will you measure vx?"
Here's the link to the pre-lab: LINK
2. #018B: lab data collection
Make a data table with displacement and time. On your table, mark your xi and xf points with small pieces of tape - I suggest that your displacement length should be .50m, but it's up to you. You must collect constant velocity data on a FLAT SURFACE. Collect 10 trials for vx. Take the average of those ten vx values to find your average vx
Find delta x for your projectile motion
find delta y between the top of the cup and the table top (you can measure the ycup, ytabletop, and _________ the two.
solve the free-fall problem to determine the time to fall delta y
Use a plumb bob to find the initial x position for your projectile motion
using the time you determined above, determine the x displacement (use a plumb bob to make the edge-of-table position on the floor).
When you're ready, call me over for your one attempt, and put your cup in the correct spot. Video your attempt.
At Home Learning (HW)
Warm-up check tomorrow. Make sure day 10-18 are complete, organized, and labeled.
