1. Notes: Paying For Medical Care

    A. Google each of these. Write two facts about each.

        i. Private Insurance

            - can be a job benefit

            - more expensive if the person has to pay out of pocket

            - $10-200/mo (single)  ($700-1000 (family))

        ii. Group Insurance

iv. Medicaid (what is this called in CA? - MediCAL)

            - State is the primary funder of Medical

            - low income

            - any age

            - provides the basics

    B. Add more results from our brainstorm to your list

    C. Where in these four groups does the ACA (Obamacare) fit?

    D. All four types of insurance (i-iv) listed above are examples of Managed Care

        i. Management: The insurance company is in control of...

            - which doctors are in network

            - how much doctors will be paid for each procedure

ii. If a patient uses an "out of network" hospital or doctor, coverage will be __________

iii. In some cases, the patient may need to be pre-_________ for services. If not approved, the patient will have to pay the costs themselves.

2. Notes: Nursing Care Patterns

    - if you work as a nurse, you will be part of the team. If you work as a doctor, you'll still need to be familiar with the pattern your HCA uses for its nurses.

What is Mr. Alexander talking about? Pattern? Here's an example: LINK

Look up and define the following nursing types.

    a. Functional Nursing: focus on one/two tasks

    b. Primary Nursing: #1 You provide all care (one-on-one)

    c. Team Nursing: Rn in charge. Delegates responsibility to LVN, NA, etc.

    i. Which type has one person doing multiple jobs?

ii. Which type has one person providing all the care for a single patient?

iii. Which type has one person doing the same task with all the patients (ex. giving drugs to all patients)

3. Review

    a. Answer number 87, 88, 89 LINK
