DAY 163
Video lecture for today: https://youtu.be/3EYkVYu89zw
Zoom lesson today from 11:00-11:30
ESSENTIAL QUESTION: How can I prove that light is a wave?
Goals:
SWBAT
1. Define Refraction
2. Use concept of refraction to explain why light bends
WARM-UP

CLASSWORK
1. 163A,B,C,D: Refraction
Slideshow: LINK
WARM-UP
Use circuit diagram symbols
1. make a circuit diagram showing a battery, wires, and two resistors in parallel
2. make a circuit diagram showing a battery, wires, and two light bulbs in series
Advanced Circuits & Components
What's a switch? What's a resistor? Capacitor? Transistor?
You likely know some of these terms, but not all.
We'll spend today's class using, and learning about, the major components of circuit.
Things you'll do:
create real circuits that make lights flash, make sounds, etc.
diagram circuits using symbols
research circuit components, and describe their function
discuss what you've learned
Things you'll use:
instruction manual:
describes function of circuit. explains how it works
circuit diagram book.
tells you where to put the parts, and which parts to use.
note: parts numbered "1" are 1st level, "2" is 2nd level, "3" is 3rd level
Assignment: Learn about circuits components, and how they work, by completing 4+ "Switch On!" mini-labs
You can start with any of the circuits above #4.
Assessment: You'll create two documents, both of which will be at least a page long:
1. 163A: Lab Summary Doc (3 columns) : Mini-Lab Title; Circuit Diagram (AKA schematic); Concepts Illustrated in Lab
2. 163B: Circuit Components (4 columns): Component Name; Symbol; Function (what it does); How Does It Work?
Groups: 3-5 students per kit, depending on class size
Learning at Home (HW)
- complete Guided Reading: Magnetism
- work on your final review
- Textbook Return Thursday
- Senior Final Periods 5 & 6 on Thursday or Friday (or both. your choice, let me know)
