#GOALS: IWBAT...
1. Define the components of the acceleration equation
2. Solve an acceleration problem using the GUESS method
3. Write Hypothesis for lab
4. Write a procedure for checking your hypothesis
5. Collect all Data
WARM-UP:
Use the GUESS procedure: A bus is moving at +25 m/s when the driver steps on the brakes and brings the bus to a stop in 3.0 s. What is the average acceleration of the bus while braking? (3min)
CLASSWORK
1. #019A: Quiz 4: Lab Reading
2. #019B: Lab #2
- Find the lab template in the materials section of schoology
- Answer the Hypothesis question
- Come up with a procedure for answering the hypothesis
- share the procedure with your neighbor. Does it make sense? Can they follow your instructions? Edit if
necessary
- check your procedure with Mr. Alexander's procedure. Edit if necessary
- Get materials, and collect / record data
- Answer conclusion questions
- Due Monday via Schoology
Learning at Home (HW)
Complete Hypothesis and Procedure sections. If you need assistance with the procedure, see me at nutrition/lunch, or message me via the Remind App
Need help with the concept of acceleration?
OLD MATERIALS BELOW
#Goals: SWBAT...
1. set up a lab experiment without being given specific instructions. (think on your own, folks)
2. collect vx data
3. determine delta x correctly
4. get the ball bearing in the cup, 1st time
Warm-Up (5min)
Copy, and fill in the blanks:
After measuring ytabletop and ycup, I can _________ them, and solve for Δ__.
Using the ____-____ equation, I can then solve for the ____ the projectile takes to fall from that height.
Now that I know the flight time, I can use that with the velocity equation, Δv = ____/_____
I'll need to rearrange the velocity equation to solve for displacement, so it looks like...
Δx =
That's the displacement from the edge of the table to where I put the ____ on the floor.
Done.
CLASSWORK
1. #018A: Pre-Lab completion
Work in your groups. Each person must write their answers on their own paper.
Here's the link to the pre-lab: LINK
2. #018B: lab data collection
Make a data table with displacement and time. On your table, mark your xi and xf points with small pieces of tape - I suggest that your displacement length should be .50m, but it's up to you. You must collect constant velocity data on a FLAT SURFACE. Collect 10 trials for vx. Take the average of those ten vx values to find your average vx
Find delta x for your projectile motion
find delta y between the top of the cup and the table top (you can measure the ycup, ytabletop, and _________ the two.
solve the free-fall problem to determine the time to fall delta y
Use a plumb bob to find the initial x position for your projectile motion
using the time you determined above, determine the x displacement (use a plumb bob to make the edge-of-table position on the floor).
When you're ready, call me over for your one attempt, and put your cup in the correct spot. Video your attempt.
3. #019A: Warm-Up Check
I'm checking Days 10-19, for a total of 10 warm-ups and 20 points (2 points each)
At Home Learning (HW)
If you didn't finish your calculations for the placement of your target cup, your job is to finish those for Monday. On Monday, I will be available before school, during nutrition, and during lunch for those who still need to collect data, do math, or do their trial.
