Buy a big prepared fresh one cheap when its on sale. Bring it to room temp, place in a moderate oven, and bake for an hour or so. Baste occasionally with 1 cup pineapple juice. 1/2 hr before the ham is ready, stud it with cloves, dredge it with Brown Sugar and leave it till its finished. Then remove from the oven and slice it for sandwiches.
Make sure you have some real hard rolls, if available, for this. If not, then various rye's will do nicely. Get some Jarlsberg Swiss cheese, and some spicy and sweet mustards.
