Value Zentangle

artist statement

I’m calling this project, value zentangle because I used abstract designs with different amounts black to make it dark to light on the scale. The subject is a strip of dark to light zentangles based off a couple of squares that I was supposed to fill in.

I chose to create this specific work because I thought these designs would make a value strip that would make a clear dark to light spectrum.

For materials, I used a sharpie. While creating this work, I paid close attention to how much pen I was using by making different designs decreasing in the amount of ink I was using. I wanted my artwork to look abstract and I did that by using different designs using shapes. To add interest to my composition, I used different patterns. However, I struggled with not shading my value strip. If I created another work like this I would use cleaner lines when I was starting the designs. My work shows that I learned how to use different values without shading.
