sustained investigation 3

Stress

9x7

I’m calling this project, "Stress" because I used colors and brushstrokes to show stress. The subject is a girl. I chose to create this specific work because my sustained investigation question was "How can I use color to show emotions in portraits". When I was creating this I had stress and anger in mind.

For materials, I used acrylic paint. I used acrylic paint as a material because I wanted intense, saturated colors. I used a variety of techniques and methods including: cross hatching with paint . While creating this work, I paid close attention to my brushstrokes by criss crossing the strokes to show disorder and stress. I wanted my artwork to look messy and I did that by the way my brush strokes look.

I like the way it turned out and I am proud of the emotion I conveyed. However, I struggled with my painting technique. If I created another work like this I may do more chaotic strokes. My work shows that I learned I learned how to make art that has meaning.
