Artist Statement

I’m calling these projects, Time Capsules because they show my abilities at the beginning of class to compare at the end of the class. The subject is a self portrait, a phone and a hand.

I chose to create this specific work because we were asked to draw a hand, a zoomed in self portrait and an object we use everyday. For materials, I used graphite, ink, sharpie and colored pencil.

I used a variety of techniques and methods including: shading burnishing.

While creating this work, I paid close attention to making it look real by observing what I was drawing. I wanted my artwork to look realistic because it was supposed to be observational. To add interest to my composition, I added trees to the background to my self portrait to bring out the green eyes.
