sustained investigation #11

(9x12 inches)

I’m calling this project, "We are all the same". The subject is of 3 girls all drawn abstractly and connected inside of my little "universe" I drew. I chose to create this specific work because I thought it was important to show that everyone should be treated with respect regardless of our appearances. When I was creating this I had equality in mind. My inquiry question is “How can I show the societal and media pressures on women through my art? I think this is a great piece for what I’m doing my question about because we are made of the same thing and we shouldn't be judged for looking any different. I think this message is important to everyone because it shows that there's no need to be ashamed of your appearance or shame others for their appearance.

For materials, I used pen and marker. I used them as a material because I wanted to be able to draw zentang;es. I used a variety of techniques and methods including: pattern. While creating this work, I paid close attention to the detail and writing by planning out the page with graphite first. I wanted my artwork to look abstract and I did that by doing blind contour for the people. To add interest to my composition, I used zentangle and blind contour.

I like the way it's abstract but the message is still clear and I am proud of the message. However, I struggled with not making it look messy. My work shows that I learned to add multiple methods of design to one piece.
