artist statement

I’m calling this project, Freeport Sports because in the back of the word freeport I drew people playing various sports. The subject is the word freeport. I chose to create this specific work because I thought sports was a big part of freeports culture. When I was creating this I had graphic design and simplicity in mind.

For materials, I used graphite and sharpie. I used sharpie as a material because it was easy to make it black and white with a thick marker. While creating this work, I paid close attention to keeping simple lines by not really drawing. I wanted my artwork to look like a graphic design so I could print it on a shirt and I did that by drawing minimal lines. To add interest to my composition, I used many different sports players.

I struggled with making the people look good. If I created another work like this I may focus on making the people being more realistic. My work shows that I learned how to make a simple design.
