Pure contour

artist statement

The project that we did was a pure contour drawing of our hands. The subject of my creation is is part of my forearm and my hand. The setting of my creation is just a backdrop that I made that has polka dots that I drew to make it more interesting. The steps I went through in creating this project were first drawing my hand, then I drew the lines on my hand and fingers, then I drew a rubber band stretched from my middle finger to my thumb and then I drew my scrunchie. After drawing that I colored in my scrunchie and added designs to the backdrop. The materials used when I made this project were graphite and colored pencil. I chose to compose my art this way because I wanted to draw y hand coming out of the corner because I thought it would look better than just being vertical.

Some techniques I use while making my art were repetition and grouping you can see it in the background. At first my project was going to be plain, simple and no color but it evolved and ended up being colorful and having design.

My artwork doesn’t have a lot of meaning to me personally. This project relates to me because it’s my hand. If I were to do this project again I would use a stencil to draw the circles instead of of free handing it.
