I’m calling this project, "how to not describe women" because I took captions from magazines and researched names that are commonly used to desribe women. The subject is a few women who have been drawn on. I chose to create this specific work because I think that we rarely hear about a womans intellect but more about her appearance. When I was creating this I had personal experience with this issue in mind. My inquiry question is “How can I show the societal and media pressures on women through my art? I think this is a great piece for what I’m doing my question about because the media is using these words to describe women (shown on magazine). I think this message is important to everyone because it shows the importance of complimenting a woman on her personality and intellect rather than someone being "hot" or "having a nice body".
For materials, I used collage and sharpie. I used collage as a material because I thought pulling these examples directly from the source would make this more reputable. While creating this work, I paid close attention to highlighting what I thought was most important by using bright colors to outline words. To add interest to my composition I drew on my collage to add some highlights
I like the way my message is clear and I am proud of it. However, I struggled with adding more color. My work shows that I learned how to research to make art.
