Cosmopolitan 9x12 inches
I’m calling this project, "Cosmopolitan" because its a cosmopolitan magazine cover as the background. The subject is a girl in front of a magazine cover with unrealistic beauty ideals. I chose to create this specific work because it shows that magazine covers makes us think poorly of our bodies, faces, etc. When I was creating this I had my inquiry question in mind.
For materials, I used markers and colored pencils. I used colored pencil as a material because it helps add more color. I used a variety of techniques and methods including: burnishing and crosshatching. While creating this work, I paid close attention to making my message apparent by adding labels to the body and magazine headlines. I wanted my artwork to look meaningful and I did that by adding lots of elements with the same message. To add interest to my composition, I used a interesting background.
I like the way I have multiple elements to my drawing and I am proud of the color and ideas. However, I struggled with making the color fill look good. If I created another work like this I may use paint for the background. My work shows that I learned how to incorporate feeling and messages to my art.
