Sadness

9x12 inches

I’m calling this project, Sadness because I made it about showing sadness through color. The subject is a girl. I chose to create this specific work because my inquiry question “How can I use color to show emotion in portraits. When I was creating this I had sadness and dreariness in in mind.

For materials, I used acrylic paint. I used paint as a material because I wanted it to be rich colors. I used a variety of techniques and methods including: pattern. While creating this work, I paid close attention to my brushstrokes by making them all the same direction. I wanted my artwork to look dark and I did that by using dark colors.

I like the way my inquiry question makes sense with my piece and I am proud of how it turned out. However, I struggled with drawing the face on. If I created another work like this I may not draw a face. My work shows that I learned how to use color to express emotion.
