duck stamp

Duck stamp

9x12 inches

I’m calling this project, “duck stamp” because the reason I made this painting was for the duck stamp competition. The subject is ducklings huddled up on a rock. I chose to create this specific work because the duck stamp competition is about preserving wetlands for animals (like ducks) I figured that everyone thinks ducklings are cute and nobody would want to do something to hurt baby ducklings. When I was creating this I had expressionism in mind, I wanted the water and the rock to look expressionistic.

For materials, I uesed acrylic paint. I used acrylic paint as a material because I wanted to have rich colors. While creating this work, I paid close attention to the feather patterns and colors on the duckling by paying close attention to the collage I put together as inspiration. I wanted my artwork to look expressionistic and I did that by using long brushstrokes with blended colors. To add interest to my composition, I put a rock for my ducklings to sit on.

I like the way my ducklings look and I am proud of the fact that I tried a new medium. Beforehand I was quite uncomfortable with paint and not good at using it However, I struggled with it and I eventually figured it out. If I created another work like this I would not add so many layers of paint on the ducks. My work shows that I learned how to explore new materials and persevered.
