circles

8 x 11 inches

I’m calling this project, “circles” because the entire drawing is based off of the circles in the middle. The subject is the circles. I chose to create this specific work because our prompt was to make a piece that was of circles so it inspired me to add other shapes and designs. When I was creating this I had clean lines and patterns in mind.

For materials, I used ink pen and sharpie. I used sharpie as a material because I wanted thicker lines to add contrast and I used ink pen as the base thickness for the rest of the lines. While creating this work, I paid close attention to making it geometric and basic but also making it interesting to look at by making thin and thick lines and adding different types of shapes and patterns everywhere. I wanted my artwork to look simple and I did that by using black and white only and using simple patterns. To add interest to my composition.

I like the way it looks because it’s simple but not boring and I am proud of how there’s lots of things to look at. However, I struggled with making neat patterns that I was happy with. If I created another work like this I may make bigger circles. My work shows that I learned how to add contrast and a full range of values to my work.
