For the security and safety of our students, JIS operates a closed campus and hence high school students may not exit the campus grounds for any reason (including briefly going beyond the gates to meet someone or collect a delivery) unless they have the High School Office’s permission to do so. To gain permission to leave campus early, students must sign out with the Attendance Office and receive an exit pass. Unless they are senior students using Senior Privilege, all students must have either a note or email verification (notes or emails from parents may be checked for authenticity via direct phone call) from their parents/guardian or permission from a counselor or an administrator. The exit pass must be shown to security on leaving campus.
Senior students receive a ‘Senior Privilege Contract’, which parents and students agree to and sign as acceptance of the conditions of this contract. This privilege entitles a Senior student to leave school when their last class or commitment for the day has taken place. A Senior may lose this privilege if they are not in good standing with the school (see Behavioural Consequences).
Students in Freshmen, Sophomore or Junior years will not be permitted to leave the campus during the school day unless they need to leave for specific purposes which cannot be arranged outside of school hours e.g. medical appointment or immigration requirements. Students must follow the process above.
Students are not permitted to leave early for tutoring or because they have an honor pass at the end of the day - unless they are exercising their Senior Privilege.
No student can leave school during the school day (even if they have an Honor Pass) to go to local shops for example and then return to school.
