Creativity, Activity & Service (CAS) is an important cornerstone of the High School experience for all our students from grades 9 to 12. It reflects the holistic nature of our program and has direct links with our own Core Documents, namely:
From our School Mission;
Learning to be best for the world.
From our School Vision:
We will inspire joyful, rigorous learning and foster wellness as a pioneering, collaborative, inclusive community.
From our Compass;
...apply new concepts, knowledge and skills to the “real world” through opportunities involving service learning, engagement with Indonesia, organizations and schools around the world.
In the High School, all students from grades 9-12 will be involved in CAS experiences as an integral component of the High School experience and thus it is a crucial Graduation requirement. It will be comprised of two components, both of which need to be completed by any student in the High School;
Grade 9/10 JISCAS
Either Grade 11/12 JISCAS or IBCAS
Please note; If a student enrols in Grade 9 (second semester), 10, 11 or 12, only the possible component(s) remaining need to be completed for graduation.
As JISCAS is a requirement for Graduation, at the end of each semester, the counselors will check ManageBac for each of their students to ensure that they are on track -this is completed with support from the GLC and SLA teachers.
The program for successful completion of the Grade 9/10 component of JISCAS would be comprised of the following requirements:
Involvement, commitment and active participation in at least one Creativity, one Activity and one Service activity throughout the two year period
In Grade 9 to pass JISCAS students need to have completed at least one of their CAS activities, reflected upon it and have it signed off by their supervisor
In Grade 10 to pass JISCAS students need to have completed one each of Creativity, Activity and Service activities, reflected upon it and have it signed off by their supervisors
JISCAS includes the following:-
A JIS co-curricular club, service club or athletics team
Community team, community event or personal engagement of an activity e.g. personal training or private music lessons - but students need to record times and have these signed off by their supervisor/instructor (this will be listed as their SLA teacher)
JIS Academy course during the years of Grade 9 through 10 (but not one which is earning course credit - e.g. Indonesian or Health)
Participation in School Play or other school event which shows active, regular commitment and participation - approval required by AP Student Life and Well-being or GLC
In Grade 9 students need to have completed at least one of their CAS activities, reflected upon it and have it signed off by their supervisor
In Grade 10 students need to reflect upon and have it signed off by their supervisor, one each of Creativity, Activity and Service activities
The program for successful completion of the Grade 11/12 component of JISCAS would be comprised of the following requirements:
Grade 11 and 12 students will be required to reflect on their extra-curricular program. All students will be registered in ManageBac, time will be allocated during SLA classes for these reflections and their SLA teacher will monitor their progress in relation to their co-curricular program and reflections.
JISCAS students need to meet all Learning Outcomes each year.
JISCAS students will need to complete and reflect on at least one activity per area (CAS) per year in Grade 11 and 12
