There are two tiers of awards in the high school. Tier One includes awards presented at our Dragon Awards Ceremony held in May. Tier Two includes Departmental and Co-curricular Awards presented during Grade Level Awards assemblies the following week. The Dragon Awards Ceremony is held in the evening and attendees are the award recipient's family members, Teachers and Counselors, and Club Advisors and Coaches. The Grade Level Awards assemblies are held during the school day and the award recipients are recognized in front of their grade-level peers.
The Dragon Awards Ceremony, held in May, honors the major High School academic, co-curricular, and community award recipients.
This award is given to a student who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in the subject area. This student has demonstrated the highest level of intellectual curiosity, insight and participation for the academic year.
The JIS Parents Booster Club Spirit Award is given to the Senior that made positive contributions to JIS co-curricular teams, clubs, and events throughout the school year. The recipient of this award has given their support and shown Dragon Spirit by volunteering their time and energy, offering their skills and creativity, and consistently being present for their peers by attending and promoting school events. Additionally, the recipient of this award exhibits a gratitude and passion for JIS and is a model for future Dragons to follow.
The PTA Community Outreach Award is presented to a Senior student who has made a significant contribution to enriching our local community. The PTA strives to grant this award to candidates who conclusively demonstrate a commitment to the tenet “Best for the World” enshrined in the JIS Values Statement. This contribution is reflected in a commitment to community outreach through service projects, co-curricular involvement, the arts, or athletics, both on the JIS campus and/or within the greater Jakarta community.
The PTA Community Outreach Award includes a cash award for each recipient. The recipients of this award will share the cash prize with a not‐for‐profit organization (Yayasan) of their choice. Candidates must have spent at least two years in the JIS High School and must have a GPA of 3.3 or higher. Each candidate must submit a statement of reflection on the topic of “Giving Back to the Community" and a reference letter from a HS faculty or an administrative member from JIS who is familiar with the student’s qualifications for the award.
The Outstanding Service Award recognizes a JIS senior who exemplifies the qualities of service and dedication to the Indonesian community. The recipient has been involved in service activities, humanitarian and/or environmental during her or his time at JIS, and has served as an example of caring, compassion and respect for those less fortunate in the local community.
The recipient of this award must have a minimum 3.3 GPA and must have been active in two of the following areas: creative arts, leadership, and/or athletics.
This Outstanding Student (for Grade 9, 10 & 11) Award takes into account academic achievement and demonstration of our Core Values and Learning Dispositions. Students are nominated by teachers using this rubric for these awards and are selected through a teacher feedback process by the High School Leadership Team (HLT)
This award goes to a graduating student who best exemplifies the JIS Values (Perseverance, Integrity, Responsibility, Respect, Compassion, Balance, Fun) and Learning Dispositions (Resilience, Reflectiveness, Resourcefulness, Relating).
One award will be given to the graduating Senior who strongly demonstrates the JIS values and learning dispositions, and acts as an example to his or her fellow students. The award is restricted to students who have been enrolled not less than two years at JIS.
Awarded to a student who is a good representative of his/her own country, with a positive attitude towards the life and culture of others. The student must be able to converse in at least two languages, and is a contributing force in the life of the school, with the ability to bring differing people together in a sense of community, thus furthering the cause of international understanding.
This award is presented to a Junior who embraces the qualities of a global citizen. This student is a proud representative of his/her nation while respectful of the cultures of other nations, has an open mind, is well informed, aware and empathetic, concerned and caring for others encouraging a sense of community, and strongly committed to engagement and action to make the world a better place. Finally, this student is able to interact and communicate effectively with people from all walks of life while having a sense of collective responsibility for all who inhabit the globe.
This award is presented to a Senior or Junior who has represented JIS at the IASAS level in the Cultural Convention and/or MUN. The award is presented to a student exhibiting a high level of ability in public speaking as well as for demonstrating determination, co‐operation, self‐ motivation, exemplary work habits, leadership, and sense of teamwork.
This award is presented to a graduating senior who must have participated in at least one of the following IASAS conventions in their junior year and one in their senior year*: MUN, dance, drama, theatre tech, forensics, debate, music and visual art. Additionally, the recipient should have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5, be a good school citizen and demonstrate a high level of ability, co-operation and leadership in his/her areas of specialization.
*They may have been a student at another IASAS school during their Junior year.
This award is presented to a graduating senior who must have participated in at least two IASAS sports in their junior year and two in their senior year*, and has a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5. The student must be a good school citizen and demonstrate a high degree of athletic ability, co-operation and leadership in his/her areas of specialization.
*They may have been a student at another IASAS school during their Junior year.
This award is presented to a student who has participated in at least two varsity sports during the year. This award is given to the complete athlete, one possessing a high level of athletic ability, determination, cooperation, hustle, self-motivation, exemplary work habits, leadership, sportsmanship, and a sense of teamwork.
This award is presented to a Senior or Junior who has represented JIS in any of the following during the year: dance, drama, strings, instrumental, vocal, piano, or visual art at the IASAS level. This award is presented to a supreme performer‐ a person possessing a high level of ability, determination, co-operation, self-motivation, exemplary work habits, leadership, and sense of teamwork.
The recipient is the Senior who leads the Valedictorian selection criteria over four years of High School.
The recipient is the Senior is runner-up for the Valedictorian selection criteria (see above) over four years of High School.
The Head of School’s Award is presented to the young man and young woman of the Senior class whose many contributions to the school have set an outstanding example for others. Their strength of character, positive attitude, unselfish service to the JIS community, and consistently strong academic effort have reflected credit upon themselves and upon the school.
* Please note - Students who gain an Academic Award will be ones that have demonstrated outstanding Knowledge, Skills and Understandings of a particular course of study, and all award winners will be in good standing (for example academic misconduct would disqualify them) as JIS students.
The Grade Level Awards Assemblies, held in May each year, honor student achievements across all disciplines.

Students who gain a Service Award will be ones that have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the service of others over a sustained period of time.
These awards are given to two students at each grade level who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in the subject area. These students have demonstrated a high level of intellectual curiosity, insight and participation.
The CAS Award is given to the outstanding students of CAS in the Senior class (up to 4 awards each year).
This is awarded to all students who achieved three varsity letters in sports or two varsity letters in MUN and Cultural Convention, in a single academic year. Students who received a varsity letter in one sport and one Cultural Convention/MUN conference in a single year also receive a white letter.
This award is presented to all students who have attended two IASAS Conventions/Tournaments and who have a minimum GPA of 3.5 during the current school year calculated to 2 decimal places. Note: GPA will be calculated based on GPA at the end of Semester One in the current school year.
The National Honor Society (NHS) is an organization of students excelling in scholarship, character, leadership and service.
NHS selection occurs once a year (second semester) and is open to any students in G10 or G11 who meet the criteria at that point. Membership in NHS is both an honor and a responsibility. After a comprehensive process involving the candidates, high school teachers, counselors, and administrators, students are selected by committee for membership in the National Honor Society.
The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) is designed specifically for high school students in grades 9-12. In 1978, the National Art Education Association began the National Art Honor Society program to inspire and recognize students who have shown an outstanding ability and interest in art. The NAHS strives to aid members in attaining the highest standards in art scholarship, character, and service, and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community.
The Music Honor Society is an organization of students excelling in music. We meet regularly throughout the school year.
As with the NHS, membership in Tri-M is both an honor and a responsibility. Members perform on and off campus and commit to a music service activity within the JIS community or beyond our walls.
Six music awards are presented at the conclusion of the final music concert of the school year: the National School Choral Award, the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award, the John Phillip Sousa Band Award, the National School Orchestral Award, the Frederick Chopin Piano Award and the Patrick Gilmore Band Award.
The 2 Jazz Awards are presented at the final Jazz Band Concert. These two awards are the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award and the Woody Herman Jazz Award.
The 2 Band awards are presented at the last Creative Arts Showcase: the John Philip Sousa Award and the Director’s Award for Band.
The 2 String awards are presented at the last Creative Arts Showcase: the National School Orchestra Award and the Director’s Award for Orchestra.
Held in late May, this is a time to celebrate the overall accomplishments of our large High School community over the preceding 10 months.
