JIS recognises participation in High School and Middle School Athletics as an integral part of student life that supplements the academic curriculum.
The High School athletics program provides an opportunity for participation for 11 teams spread across three sports seasons. Teams are selected through a tryout and evaluation process. Our teams play friendly games with local schools and sports clubs, with seasons culminating in tournaments or special events. High School teams participate in the Interscholastic Association of Southeast Asian Schools (IASAS) conference and the Jakarta Athletic & Activities Conference (JAAC).
High School Teams
Varsity
The Varsity teams are recognized as the school team competing at the highest level. Coaches are encouraged to select a squad of players at the Varsity level, but each sport will have an upper limit of Varsity places. This will especially be the case as the season progresses towards the culminating event of the season, the IASAS Championship tournament. At the Varsity level, one of the team goals is to be competitive and strive toward earning a medal at their season-ending event. While the Varsity and JV teams are separate entities, coaches and student-athletes are expected to work together in order to build a cohesive program across Varsity and JV.
Junior Varsity (JV) Blue
Junior Varsity Blue is the team level directly below the Varsity team. The emphasis at the JV level is development, participation, and an introductory experience to higher level competition. The JV teams will learn about teamwork, competition, commitment, and skills acquisition. All sports will have a JV program if there are sufficient participant numbers to warrant it.
Junior Varsity (JV) White
JV White is the second tier of the Junior Varsity program. The focus at this level is to learn the fundamentals of the sport, skills, rules of the game, and competition. Due to availability of resources and coaches, not all sports will have a JV White team.
