Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS) believes in the values of perseverance, integrity, responsibility, respect, compassion, balance and fun. The college/university application process provides students, families, and counselors the opportunity to exhibit these values in action. Moreover, JIS has positive relationships with many universities around the world. For these trusting relationships to continue JIS has determined certain agreements are necessary. These agreements are designed to enhance JIS students’ admissibility to the universities of their choice.
From the perspective of universities, integrity is the most important value to uphold. University admissions officers and JIS counselors expect that students are submitting applications, including essays, which are entirely their own work. Academic honesty must exist in JIS classes and this extends to the university application process. A breach of academic honesty could jeopardize a student’s chances of admission. In most countries around the world, when a student submits an application to a university, they attest to not committing fraud. Counselors and students are obligated to report to universities any misrepresentation or lapse of integrity on the part of the student which results in an out-of-school suspension. In line with the Behavioral Consequences chart in the High School Student Handbook, counselors must report discipline infractions and/or Academic Misconduct, when the university application allows or asks for this information.
JIS counselors also expect families to disclose whether they are working with an external counselor or agency, as this could impact the integrity of a student’s application.
JIS students should apply to universities/colleges that have been fully researched, are of true interest to them, and are appropriate for their academic record. In other words, we strongly encourage students to apply to universities/colleges that are a “good fit” for them. It is also important to note that JIS students will submit no more than 10 applications worldwide, as is the norm amongst large Asian international schools. JIS counselors will not process any further documentation beyond these 10 applications. In the JIS High School Profile sent to universities/colleges at the time of application, it states that “JIS students are limited to ten (10) applications globally” and that “an application from a JIS student is a well-considered one”.
Examples of application systems which count as one (1) application are as follows: the University of California system application, the UCAS application for the UK, and OUAC for Ontario, Canada. However, in the Common Application system used for many universities in the US, each university/college is counted individually. Students and parents are encouraged to speak with their counselor for further clarification.
Teacher and counselor recommendation letters advocate for JIS students. These recommendation letters are always confidential; they are sent directly to the receiving institution and not given to the student or their parents. Official JIS transcripts are also sent only to institutions; students can request an unofficial transcript copy from the JIS Registrar.
If a student chooses to apply Early Decision (ED) to a given university, they are indicating that this institution is their first choice for further study. If the student is then admitted as an ED applicant, they must then withdraw all other applications (worldwide) and enroll in the admitting institution. JIS will not process additional requests for transcripts to institutions in any country.
Students and their parents need to understand that last-minute changes to application plans often result in delays and are sometimes misguided. We do not allow students to make changes to their DRF’s during holiday breaks.
It is the student’s responsibility to send official test score reports directly from the testing agency (SAT, ACT, TOEFL, IB, AP, etc.) to each university.

If a student needs an award or certificate verified or stamped for university application purposes, this award or certificate needs to have been issued by JIS administration. If a student receives an award at an IASAS event, JIS will allow this award to be added to the student's activity verification letter. It is not possible for JIS to verify or stamp an award or certificate that was issued by another outside organization.
