High School Philosophy

High School Philosophy

We Believe;

  • Academic integrity and social responsibility are key values of responsible behavior;
  • Positive and clearly articulated expectations of behavior help students make wise decisions;
  • Trust and honesty are vital in building relationships and in helping us to arrive at solutions to problems;
  • Patience, sensitivity, respect and listening are effective influences on good behavior;
  • Mistakes are learning opportunities;
  • Students will live up to what is expected of them;
  • Where possible, students should be involved in a restitution process to make amends for behavior that does not meet JIS expectations;
  • Mutual respect includes mutual responsibility;
  • The best type of discipline is self-discipline; the best type of control is self-control.

Aims of the High School Code of Ethics & Conduct

  • To foster responsible, respectful and caring behavior in all JIS community members and an awareness of how one’s behavior affects others.
  • To develop age appropriate independence.
  • To develop and maintain JIS High School community values and ethics.
  • To engage students in their own problem solving to find solutions for unacceptable behavior.
  • To look for solutions rather than blame.
  • To deal with the beliefs behind the behavior and not just the behavior itself.
  • To help students learn and move forward from their mistakes.
  • To ensure a healthy, drug- and alcohol-free environment.

Goals for Learning

In response to their emerging maturity, we believe that our students should:

  • Be educated to work independently, to acquire knowledge and develop skills for a changing world, to think analytically, critically and creatively to achieve their full potential, and to demonstrate a respect for learning;
  • Attain an international perspective, with a commitment to world citizenship and a sensitivity toward and appreciation of Indonesian and world cultures;
  • Respect self, others, the school, and the environment; and
  • Possess integrity, with a desire to serve others, an ability to make and accept responsibility for personal choices, and a commitment to balanced physical and emotional health.

In order to meet the challenge of developing these qualities in our diverse student body, we believe that the school should:

  • Establish and maintain recognized standards of academic excellence and social behavior;
  • Offer a comprehensive academic and co-curricular university preparatory program which is challenging, enjoyable, technologically current, and purposeful;
  • Provide a variety of teaching methods which recognize the learning styles of our students and stress the acquisition of life-long learning skills; and
  • Create a healthy, well-balanced environment in which respect and compassion thrive.
