Structured Study Hall
We acknowledge that there are times people benefit from having structures available to support crossing the knowing-doing gap. When far behind on work, it is not always easy to choose to get started. Structured Study Hall (SSH) is an intervention that aims to help students use their time to get caught up, ask for help, or make up assessments.
Location/Time: F306 during Honor Pass
Reason: Academic support
Type of Support: Mandatory (priority over co-curriculars and other engagements, skipping SSH results in detention), supportive, non-punitive
Referrals:
One time to make up assessment, additional time on assessment, or provide structure and support
Until x, y, z is submitted and approved
x amount of time
Supplementary practice
Expectations:
Work quietly, be fully focused, ask for help (please raise your hand).
Peers can help one another and work together as long as it doesn’t become a distraction and stays within the bounds of academic integrity
Students are expected to be present at SSH until calendar invitations are no longer created for them
If work is finished before or during the SSH period, students should email the teacher who referred them to notify that the work is submitted. In order to leave early, they will need to show the supervisor that the email has been sent. The student is then allowed to leave SSH.
Students are responsible for ensuring they have completed work according to the instructions. If they request to leave SSH early and have not fully followed instructions, the incident will be treated as a breach of the Code of Ethics under Academic Honesty. Students will then meet with the Associate Principal for Student Life and Well-being with possible further consequences.
If work is not finished by the end of the period, students are automatically assigned for the next session
