Awards & Banquets for High School teams
High School Athletics at JIS presents a variety of awards at the end of each of the three sport seasons, as well as major awards at the end of the school year during the Dragon Awards Ceremony.
Athlete of the Year - Male & Female
The Athlete of the Year Awards honor the student-athletes whose athletic performances have been outstanding during the school year. These awards are presented to a female and a male student who have participated in at least two varsity sports during the year and have demonstrated the qualities of the complete athlete: a high level of athletic ability, exemplary work habits, self-motivation, resilience, leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The Athlete of the Year Awards are given at the end of the school year and determined by a vote of the Coaches and the JIS Athletics Department leadership team.
Scholar Athlete of the Year
The Scholar Athlete of the Year Award is to honor a student-athlete who has excelled both academically and athletically. This award is presented to a Senior who has participated in at least two varsity sports in each of their final two years at JIS and has a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5. Additionally, the student must be a good school citizen, has impacted their teammates and coaches positively, and has demonstrated a high degree of athletic ability. The Scholar Athlete of the Year Award is given at the end of the school year and determined by a vote of the Coaches and the JIS Athletics Department leadership team.
JIS White Letter Award
Awarded to all students who have achieved one of the following:
Three varsity letters in sports across the three sport seasons.
Two varsity letters in MUN, Cultural Convention (Cul Con) in a single academic year.
Has received a varsity letter in one sport and one MUN/CC/Leadership convention in a single academic year.
IASAS Scholar Award
Awarded to all students who have attended 2 IASAS events during the school year and are in high academic standing (3.5 GPA & higher). The IASAS Scholar Awards are given at the end of the school year.
Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award
Given to the athlete on each Varsity and JV sport team whom the coaches feel was the most outstanding player on the team during the season by taking into account such things as: skill and performance, leadership, dedication, collaboration, sportsmanship, and contribution to the team’s success. The MVP Awards are given at the end of each sport season and are appointed by the Coaches of each team.
Dragon Spirit Coaches’ Choice Award
Given to the athlete on each Junior Varsity (JV) and Varsity sport team whom the coaches feel made the most positive contributions during the season by taking into account such things as: work ethic, commitment, character, resilience, passion, and teamwork. The Dragon Spirit Coaches’ Choice Awards are given at the end of each sport season and are appointed by the Coaches of each team.
End of Season High School Athletics Awards Banquet
At the culmination of each of the three High School sport seasons a banquet is held to recognize the achievements of the past season’s teams and individuals. The event is semi-formal, catered dinner, with speeches and award presentations. An RSVP email will be sent by the Athletics Office one week prior to the date. The event and dinner is sponsored by the JIS Parents’ Booster Club.
Dragon Awards Ceremony
The Dragon Awards Ceremony is the premier event for the High School held in May of each school year. The Dragon Awards Ceremony is a time for the High School community to honor and award students who have excelled in academics, or in our co-curricular sports, service and cultural programs. The Dragon Awards Ceremony is considered a formal event and guests should dress accordingly. Drinks and snacks will be provided. An RSVP email will be sent two weeks prior to the event. There is no cost to any attendees to the Dragon Awards Ceremony.
