This policy is designed to pair community wellness with equitable and reliable access to our shared campus infrastructure.
Accessibility & Efficiency: Elevators are a vital resource for individuals with mobility limitations and staff transporting essential equipment. Restricting general elevator traffic prevents crowding and delays, ensuring those who depend on vertical transport can move around campus safely and with ease.
Incidental Exercise: Daily movement accumulated throughout the day, such as choosing the stairs over an elevator, is a proven way to support physical and mental health. Normalizing movement over convenience is one small habit that promotes wellness.
Elevator use is strictly reserved for community members with specific mobility or operational needs, including:
Students or staff with permanent or temporary physical disabilities, injuries, or health/medical reasons. Students can contact the high school office for an elevator pass, if needed.
Faculty, staff, and operations personnel actively moving heavy equipment, teaching carts, or facility supplies.
Community Standard: Able-bodied students, faculty, and staff carrying standard daily personal items (such as backpacks or laptop bags) are expected to use the stairs for transit between floors.
This policy relies on mutual respect, compassion, consideration, and self-regulation across our school community. Keeping elevator capacity clear respects the dignity and needs of peers and colleagues while reinforcing a shared commitment to an active, healthy campus environment.
