"The challenge is not limited to addressing the destruction and disorders caused by the war. The challenge is to construct a new person in a new society." — Ignacio Martín-Baró
The Martín-Baró Initiative supports progressive, grassroots groups throughout the world who are challenging institutional repression and confronting the mental health consequences of violence and injustice in their communities.
The Martín-Baró Initiative was established to honor the memory of Father Ignacio Martín-Baró, a Jesuit priest and social psychologist who was murdered in El Salvador in 1989, and to further the goals to which he dedicated his life. Our grants support progressive, grassroots groups throughout the world who are challenging institutional repression and confronting the mental health consequences of violence and injustice in their communities.

Season 02, Episode 01
On July 8th, 2024, Brinton was featured on the Cited Podcast's returning series, the Rationality Wars, which tells stories about political and intellectual battles to define rationality and irrationality. She spoke about Martín Baró's journey from his birthplace of Valladolid, Spain, to the violence-ridden communities of El Salvador where he used the tools within liberation psychology to challenge the status quo and give a voice to the Salvadoran people.
A description of the episode from the Cited Podcast's website:
