Chapter Three: Women and their daily life
6. Market women in Chajul
She feels happy with the business she runs. She can earn a living with it and have some money, but his work is quite difficult because sometimes she earns no money. Sometimes she suffers from hunger and her family does too. It is very tiring because one has to be out in the direct sun and sometimes out in the rain, but since this is how she earns a living, she does it. She and her husband make an effort to work together to support their family.
We people of Chajul are very grateful to God that there are people like this woman, and are thankful that she brings vegetables here to Chajul, because in our town it’s hard to grow them. These people do their best to bring these products to our town and that is the only way we can get our vegetables. We know that it is difficult for them since they must travel far to find these things.
She would like her business to be more successful. We hope that her business grows in the future since she works so hard and travels to so many different towns on account of it.
We want to have better products in our market. We don’t want to lack vegetables or fruit, and we want the marketplace to be orderly and clean so that we can have good health. Hygiene is a positive step forward for our town. It is our hope that the merchants can maintain their enthusiasm and persevere in their businesses so that commerce and the market in our town of Chajul improve.
