Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is a holistic approach to pest management, which includes both environmental, physical, and chemical prevention and control strategies. Let's quickly review some of what you learned in the earlier video to ensure you caught the most important points. It is essential you follow these guidelines while working with food:
Maintain a clean and well-maintained space. Minimize the amount of food left unprotected, while cleaning all spills, grease, and food in the environment immediately.
Eliminating nesting areas by keeping areas free of boxes and/or equipment.
Eliminate leaks by maintaining taps in good repair. Prevent pooling water on the floor. Do the necessary repairs on taps and other possible sources.
Store all garbage in pest-proof containers. Use tight-fitting lids to avoid entry and contamination by pests. Keep garage areas clean and organized.
Caulk and fill any and all openings around and inside the premises, including exterior holes, pipe openings, around drain openings.
Ensure doors and windows have intact screens.
Check food deliveries and storage for any signs of infestation, including torn packaging, feces, and teeth marks.
Hire, and keep on hand, a reputable and licensed pest control company. Use baits and traps as necessary.
