Physical Contamination
Physical Contamination
In addition to chemicals, food can also be contaminated by foreign objects. We call these physical contaminants. Foreign bodies can make their way into food during delivery, preparation or storage. Physical contamination can cause choking, as well as scrapes and cuts inside the mouth and throat. Examples of physical contaminants may include:
Hair
Glass
Metal shavings from a can
Nails
Bandages
Staples
Rocks
You may not always see foreign objects in food or packaging, so it is important to ensure preventative measures are taken.
