Provincial Legislation
Provincial Legislation
Provincial Legislation is applicable across a province but may differ between provinces.
The two main provincial legislations impacting food service workers and establishments in Ontario are:
Health Protection and Promotion Act (HPPA)
Food Premises Regulation 493/17
Public Health Units in Ontario get direction from the province and are responsible for implementing the standards set out in these two legislations. Legislation helps ensure safe conditions are maintained in all premises where food is held, prepared, and served. Health Units work at the local level and carry out their duties by the power granted to them under these two provincial legislations.
