Day 1:
What was the Cold War - brief class discussion introducing the Cold War
Cold War Exploration
Divide & Conquer: students will work individually to gather information to help their overall understanding of different parts of the Cold War. Each group member will tackle a portion of Chapter 17 in the text. 1. Students will work in groups of 5 to complete this activity. Choose your groups wisely, you will need to divide up the work, and remember that you will be observed for how well you work together.
Use Chapter 17 of your textbook to complete this activity. The goal is for you to piece together a basic understanding of the causes, events, and consequences of The Cold War.
SKIM your section. Students should take time to skim their assigned section to obtain a basic understanding of the historical content. Once students have skimmed they will need to gather and complete the following:
Chapter 17, Section _____ Title of Section:_____________________________________
Overview/Synopsis/Summary of Section: after skimming, do your best to summarize what you think this section is about. Do NOT copy from the book, these summaries should be your own.
Important Vocabulary: what vocabulary do you think a student must understand to grasp the overall story of this section? Gather a list and, if you can, define the vocabulary using your OWN words:
Identify “hot spots” of the Cold War and offer a brief summary of what happened (think important dates, location, and a one sentence summary)
Collaborative Learning: share out what you discovered about the Cold War and complete the attached template.
