Dear Freshmen Advisees,
At the end of next week you will have completed your first quarter as a high school student. Congratulations. While it may not seem like it right now, the days of high school will be long but your time will be short. Before you know it you will be completing freshman year and then, in the blink of an eye, you will be walking across the stage at graduation waiting to shake my hand (or hopefully give me a hug). The pace at which life moves these days is intense and as such it is easy to get distracted by the mundane, day - to -day tasks and forget to focus on your larger goals, dreams, and character. Today, I’d like you to really think about who you are, where you’d like to go in life, and who you’d like to become. Think about this and then I’m going to ask you to write a letter to your future self.
This letter will be due to me by the end of the week and should include:
A description of who you are right now. What are your values? Your interests? Your passions? Your questions? Your concerns?
A vision for who you’d like to be and where you’d like to go in life. Perhaps focus on what you’d like to accomplish in your four years in high school.
Any advice you’d like to offer your future self as you navigate toward adulthood.
This letter should be handwritten and formatted to the best of your ability. You may write it on whatever type of paper or stationary you like and may personalize it as you see fit. Take the time to enjoy this process and make it work for you (many of my students in the past have not taken this assignment seriously and they regret it). I will return this letter to you upon your High School Graduation. :)
Happy thinking and successful writing,
Mrs. Hembree
