Discussion: I spent about ten minutes discussing how we learn. By this time in your sophomore year, students ARE able to identify HOW they learn best and are completely capable of figuring out an assignment (the purpose, how to do it, and how to learn from it) - the problem is that many are not choosing to spend the time it takes to do this. I am asking students to actively choose to approach learning purposefully. For the next several class days, I will provide creative assignments and it will be up to the students to complete them as they prepare for their exam on this unit.
Choose your activity: based on their reflection from Friday, students have identified which area they need more practice with (writing or visual critical thinking). Whichever area they chose is the assignment they should focus on today (see attached).
I have attached "teacher" versions of each assignment so students can best judge their efforts and work to improve on their products.
I have also attached my notes from Ch.11.4 in the event that this helps students.
