Unit 3 Assessment vision
we discussed as a class how the assessment on Imperialism will not include a reassessment opportunity. This is because for every lesson we do we will be providing timely and productive direct feedback for students to work toward improving and learning. In essence, the assessment WILL be a reassessment because of the nature of this unit in both history and English classes. It is imperative that students turn in their best work and pay attention to feedback (or seek further discussion with a teacher as needed).
The assessment will be two fold with one part comprising of a dual sided one pager showing alternative perspectives on Imperialism. The other part of the assessment will be an essay based on the prompt: How has imperialism shaped your perspective on the world?
The assessment will very likely be handed out before Thanksgiving break and "given" upon our return from break.
Students will review Chs.11.1 & 11.2 using Mrs. Hembree's notes (attached). Hembree will lead a discussion on why/how Europeans divided and conquered almost the entire African continent.
Special focus on the difference between the Age of Exploration (conquering and taking) and the Age of Imperialism (controlling and using)!!
Students will then work in their assigned groups to discuss and develop a dual sided one pager. One pagers must:
Address 10 concepts each (10 for the positive effects of Imperialism in Africa & 10 for the negative effects of Imperialism in Africa) using a visual or symbolic representation.
Include color, creativity, and clarity
Final one pagers are due Monday & Tuesday (10/30 & 10/31).
