Title: Enlightenment à REVOLUTION!
Purpose:
1. Review the biggest/most impactful ideas of the Enlightenment
2. Define and understand “revolution”
3. Examine HOW change happens
OPENER: Answer the following questions working with your group.
1. Using Ch. 6.2 in the text book, identify and explain in your own words what the “legacy of the Enlightenment” was. What are the 3 most significant ideas to come out of the enlightenment?
2. What IS a Revolution? Come up with a group definition.
STEP 1: We will connect the legacy of the Enlightenment to the American Revolution. Your job, as a group, is to become EXPERTS on your one section of the American Revolution. Remember, the purpose of your reading, discussing, and annotating is to find evidence of change (HOW they did it) and how it connects to ideas of the Enlightenment.
STEP 2: Rearrange your groups by numbers (Group #1, Group #2, etc.) and share out the information you have as experts. The purpose here will be to review, to analyze, to look for connections, and to understand how the ideas of the Enlightenment led to the American Revolution.
STEP 3: Return to your Letter Groups and summarize what you learned, discussed, and heard. As a group, can you effectively answer the question: How does enlightened thinking ignite change?
