Good morning Advisory Family,
I hope this Monday is off to a good start for all of you. I wanted to check in with a few housekeeping items as we begin our third full week of school. In this update, I'll go over a review of Back to School Night, Infinite Campus checks, Upcoming assignments, Grade Checks and Tutorials, and Birthday Wishes.
Back To School Night
For those of you who came to BTSN, thank you! It's always such a whirlwind from a teacher's perspective but it's so nice to put faces to names and get to talk to you in person as opposed to just through email. We had a great turnout and I really appreciate you taking the time out of your evening to join us.
For those that missed it: the NP3 High Website has links to all important information shared by our administration and I suggest you check in with your child's teachers for additional information as needed. With regards to Advisory, I've uploaded what I passed out to my website (an overview of 9th grade advisory and a HW assignment for parents).
Infinite Campus
All students and parents should be able to log in to Infinite Campus (our grading portal) and I highly recommend you check this regularly. If you are unable to log in, please let me know and I can retrieve your child's log in information for you. I believe IC has an app that allows you to receive updates on grades and attendance that works fairly well (teachers see something different in the portal than parents and students, so I'm not entirely sure what your end will look like).
Upcoming Assignments
I have been asked by your World History teachers to remind all freshmen that they have a product assessment (The ME Project) due THIS FRIDAY, 8/23 to their history teacher.
Freshmen are also working on their House on Mango Street vignettes for English so they should be working toward completion and learning in both of these classes consistently. Feel free to reach out if you haven't seen or heard about either of these assignments and we can check in with your student together. You can also check the teacher websites for additional information
Grade Checks & Tutorials
On Friday I passed out our first practice Grade Check (forms can be found on my website, under the Advisory tab). These are forms we will work together to complete every two weeks or so. I will try to let you know when they are being completed so parents can check in with students as well. They are designed to encourage deeper thought around learning and grades in each of their classes and easily, I think, elicit conversations about classes should you use them for such (as I plan to).
We will also use these grade checks to help us determine which tutorial is best for each student (a decision I trust and encourage students to make for themselves). Today they will all sign up for their first tutorial, so please ask them about this when they come home today.
Tutorials will begin tomorrow (they run Tuesday and Wednesday each week) and are designed to help enhance or assist student learning in their courses.
Birthday Wishes
Lastly, I wanted to send a huge HAPPY BIRTHDAY message to Sebio, Dennis, and Gabe - who all celebrate birthdays this month! We will be singing and eating cookies in Advisory to celebrate them. :)
Thank you all for reading and please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. I love hearing from you!
All the best,
Jen Hembree
