Samantha Brodey is the Eccles School’s Scholarship Manager, and Karissa Howard is her Scholarship Coordinator. Samantha and Karissa administer scholarships for all Eccles School programs and centers except the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute. (Alicia Vess handles Lassonde scholarships.) Samantha and Karissa also act as liaisons between Alumni Relations & Development and the Dean’s Office. Each year, their busiest time is between April and September.
There are five types of scholarships:
Admission-based scholarships are tied to a student’s 1) admission to the University of Utah or 2) admission to an Eccles School program (e.g. Business Scholars). The monies are either 1) school-backed waivers or 2) donor-provided funds.
General scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students annually.
Centers award scholarships to their students annually.
Third-party scholarships cover Eccles School’s partnerships like Education at Work (EAW).
Staff scholarships cover the cost of an employee’s business coursework ($2,000 annually).

Samantha and Karissa utilize three different scholarship systems:
Salesforce acts as the main database for donor information, funding, and scholarship recipients. It is also used to send award letters (via email and Qualtrics).
Blackbaud Award Management (formerly AcademicWorks) is the University of Utah’s central scholarship system. It houses the following applications: Eccles School’s Undergraduate General, Marriner S. Eccles Economics, and Informed Decisions. Samantha and Karissa import data from Salesforce but use Blackbaud to collect thank-you notes. (The Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute uses Blackbaud to manage offer letters and acceptance forms.)
Scholarship Administration (via CIS) is used for disbursing funds.
Ideally, Samantha would like the following units would have a standard process for awarding scholarships:
Business Scholars
MBA
OSI
SMP
